I am writing this post to thank SEOmoz for passing me such amazing goodies with a tee that I was struggling for more than a year!
Damn, I love this tee! 🙂
My target was to get a SEOmoz T-shirt and for this I was supposed to do something extra ordinary like becoming a GURU in the SEOmoz community or help community in such a way that SEOmoz decides to gift me for my contribution.
AND THEN FINALLY IT HAPPENED…
This whole target was so unbelievable, as I am from a country where not many people invest their time on community participation and relationship building instead they still prefer to use old school and stale SEO practices. I started sharing my views on SEOmoz blog and honestly speaking I was not good at it but with time, consistency as well as some under the hood lessons from the awesome brains around I managed to become what I am today and planning to move forward in the months and years to come.
As an active participant, what exactly I have learnt from the SEOmoz community?

This is one of the most common phrases in the internet marketing world but honestly most of us don’t practice it quite frequently(with no offence). SEOmoz community actually taught me to share what I really posses to help others who are in need and as karma you will definitely find people lending you hand when you need them.
I read it somewhere that “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in” – Morrie Schwartz.
And indeed SEOmoz is not just practicing religiously but they are also injecting the same lesson within others in the community.
Respect others Opinions
I think this is one of things that must have happen with everyone at some point. People around you who have more or may be less experience then you can have a different opinion then yours and it is not necessary that they agree on what you believe.
There were times when I had a different opinion then what SEOmoz expert team has to say and I discussed that openly in the comment section. The thing I learned from their practice is to respect other’s opinion so that everyone can openly share what they think, and who knows where it leads.
SEOmoz is not yet another an internet message board where one user name helps the other username and that’s it. Instead they have strive their best to build a community where people can meet people, inspite of thousand miles of distance that distribute us into different nationalities, can make new friends and help each other in multiple way’s.
Thanks to SEOMoz it helped meet some genius minds around the globe and few of them are actually turned out as my mentors for professional life. They changed the way I used think about SEO and digital marketing and helped me shape my career as professional when I was no one.
Said that, I can’t miss out names like Gianluca Fiorelli, Tad Chef, Don Rhoades, Julie Joyce and more, they actually pointed out my weak points and helped me improve my skills and even avail me the opportunity to get introduced to the larger audience.
Test and Experiment
SEO industry as a whole is meaningless without the words “experiment” and “testing”. It is important for all of us to analyze and try-out new stuff every time and see what is innovative in the search bubble.
SEOmoz has taught me that you should not always be the one who learns from other mistakes but instead you should make your own set of mistakes, learn from them and teach it to others as well. In short, it is a collective job of the community to work together with experts to find the way out!
SEOmoz itself run several experiments where they asked for their community help and encourage them to participate with the team to find something new (I still remember that Jennifer Lopez experiment by Jen!).
Build something you can be proud of:
This is the new thing which very few communities encourage and that is to build something of your own that you be proud of. This shouldn’t necessarily be a business or a SEO tool only but this can be a link baiting campaign, a new technique, theory or anything which makes you proud.
I am in the process of building a blog that might not become the best SEO blog in the world but at least offer state-of-the-art tactics that allows new people in the community to learn SEO and practice inbound marketing techniques correctly so that they do not run for blogs that offer low quality tactics that might take business at risk in the longer run.
Being an Active member of SEOmoz community is an honor for me and I really want to be a permanent part of it for the years to come so that I can continue to help others and learn alot more through them.
